Oh shit. I didn't realize that the costume contest wasn't dressing up your character in-game. If I knew it was drawing I would have been all over that.
Oh well. The Professor did the best costume anyway. WHAT'S JUMPIN' CHICK??

Ah yes. Time to give my opinions on the turnout with only a fringe chance someone will come over here and get really offended. It's time for scholarly review! Scary 1st: C - This is my entry, of course. I can't even imagine a dimension where anyone could vote for anything but mine given the choices. I filled it with whatever weird stuff I could think of. I probably should have changed the smile... but I worked with the model. 2nd: B - Now we come to slender man number 1. Clearly a super original idea. At least it wasn't done terribly. I always really liked the faceless human for years before Slender Man hit the internet, but now I am rendered unable to use the concept lest people say 'Oh, like Slender Man!'
3rd: D - Shadow Peach. She was kind of scary in the game, I guess... well, the actually shadowy portion. Peach never looked too scary even with her down-turned eyebrows. 4th: A - Another Slender Man... I think. What is this? If Slender Man ran around wearing a black jumpsuit that said Slender Man on it I would think he was less of a ghoul and more of some kind of asshole who is trying to brand himself. Now, I've said in the past that I think even if you aren't very good at art you should participate in stuff like this... but that really only applies when you have a good idea. When you are going to poorly execute an obvious, overused idea poorly... maybe you should just not do it at all. To quote Dr. Teeth "Oh, holy shit. You made me wanna pee myself. That was terrible." Cute1st: C - My entry again. The margin isn't nearly as thick here as it is in the other two categories, though. Mine is clearly the best in terms of ability but that is kind of irrelevant. I couldn't think of anything too cute. 2nd: A - I actually find this one kind of cute in a corny way. Twins (maybe?) wearing shirts with the Gemini symbol and singing while holding hands is the kind of cuteness that rises a bit of bile on the back of your throat I wish I could come up with when necessary. 3rd: D - I don't find anime girls particularly cute... but apparently everyone else does. With the audience of AiC, I see it as pandering... if I wanted to make sure Midna would vote for me with no doubt at all it's what I would have done... I do, however, have some pride. 4th: B - BORING. A witch hat you bought at Wal-Mart and the ugly sweater your grandma knitted for you isn't cute.. or original... or worth anyone's time at all. Funny1st: B - Surprise, surprise... it's mine again. I guarantee you nobody but myself, Byron and Silly (because I linked the video on submission to her) knew what this one was about... well, maybe Tres or Queens or someone old enough if I was lucky. I am honestly surprised it's getting the votes it is... I mean it is funny if you are in the know, but nobody is. I can attest the votes to the rancid putridness of the other entries. 2nd: A - What is this? Antlers? That is all there is to this. It's not like that shirt could be considered funny in any way. I was sure this got mixed up and was supposed to be in cute... and even if it was I wouldn't rank it very highly. 3rd - C - What on God's dreadful earth is this? That is just some kid wearing clothes on an ugly color scheme. Am I missing something? Is this supposed to be something? Furthermore, is this supposed to be funny? It just seems like something junior would make mommy at kindergarten and bring it home so she could hang it on the fridge. I simply cannot vote in this contest. My favorite entry of each one is my own and voting for yourself is illegal. I can't bring myself to type the key that corresponds to each individual and unoriginal piece of half-assery. Scholarly review Pt.2: Profile Contest 1st: Professor Layton - I usually try to be humble, but in this case I am not going to. My entry is the best by a wide margin. In no universe do I think any sane person should vote for any other one. I worked incredibly hard on both the underline story told through the notes... but mainly making that animation. It could just be the time I put into it deluding me, but I think it is very good and the pop-out is great for when you are in the middle of reading. I have it set to pop out after 20 seconds... which is a bit longer then I would have preferred, but I think for the majority of AiC it was still too long. I have almost zero faith that anyone will ever read anything I write, even if it is just two paragraphs or less of text. Because the creature popping out is so important to the design it concerns me greatly that people just looked at it for 5 seconds, saw there was text, and moved on. The amount of effort I put into making it will probably be wasted. 2nd: Chobiboko - I don't know if I've ever told you guys, but I think Chobi is one of the few redeeming members of AiC right now. He's constantly creative without any reason for doing so outside of doing it for fun. I've really come to like both the way he thinks and his style of art. His profile is a fun little story... and I just love the way the demon looks in every panel. You never know exactly what he is going to do and that is brilliant. I might have been too hasty saying none of the other entries where comparable to mine... Chobi's is really growing on me. 3rd: Silly - Unlike most people, I actually do care if I offend Silly. However, I'm not crazy about the profile. It seems to be a pretty common thing in the 2 profile contest I've seen to just get some pictures off of Google and add some accompanying quotes. Thriller was probably about the best that could be done with this style involving Halloween, but it still feels lazy to me. Sorry. 4th: Vicki - I don't like anime girls, this should be clear by now. However, I wouldn't like this one even if it used a character I did like. It's just more Google images (granted, they are pasted into one large image). The end just makes it feel like Vicki is talking about this character which not only doesn't put me in the Halloween spirit but also makes me want to facepalm... in other words it doesn't send me.

I voted for Chobiboko in the profile contest because he was honestly my favorite. Yes Professor, he did beat you in my eyes by a teeny tiny little bit. I've really fallen in love with his art. Ever since I first commented on one of his pokemon avatars I knew there was something about him that I liked. It's the way all of his art contains a narrative presented visually in such an interesting way. It's the way it makes me feel; like all good art his stuff makes me feel something I don't feel anywhere else. Bottom line: I see something in him that I wish I had.
I don't feel like I should vote in the costume category though, because the professor totally trashed every other entry in that contest and it would feel a bit nepotistic. I mean seriously, he made them look like puke covered in barf. Good Glob, that anime girl was wretched without a point of comparison, but next to the Professor it looks like concentrated fugly poured on a roadkill gorilla butt. Jeez...

I have no problem with that. I wouldn't want you to vote for anything less then your favorite or else it'd be like that time Midna fixed that competition by changing his vote to break his tie with Tres when his friends who never posted until competitions are around came and up-voted his lame Google-images-inside-boxes anime banner. If you favorite was Vicki's I'd probably decide not to be your friend anymore.... but it wasn't. I voted for Chobi too. It's a shame that we are the only ones. The though that more people voted for Vicki's sickens me. People like to play a game of connections... one I'm glad you didn't play and just vote for me because it was me. In this game 3 people voted for Vicki when in a just world she should have gotten no votes. Those votes would have been better spent on Chobi's. I'm sure some people would say that this is a matter of opinion... but it's not. Chobi's is superior to Vicki's in every way... and it's not just because Vicki's is terrible. However, Vicki's is terrible. I just want to make sure I really really drive that point home.
What I love about Chobi most I think is his unique style of narrative and the way he phrases things. Let me point out, in his profile contest alone, the things I think are amazing.
1. The demon's face in every panel. 2. The fact everyone knows his number and calls him over such a trivial thing. I actually think that is god damn hilarious and it's the kind of humor I can't do. Seriously, I think that is gold and wish we had thought of it. 3. The phrase "Skulls are so useful." 4. "Halloween is very scary, how do I always make it?" I don't know what it is about it... but it's just such a genuinely good line to go along with the picture.
I sure hope this praise doesn't make him uncomfortable...

Yeah, me too. I guess I'd feel weird if I was Chobi and some guys just suddenly started fawning over me like an art god. So Chobiboko, don't take this the wrong way. We just like you, that's all. :)

3rd: D - I don't find anime girls particularly cute... but apparently everyone else does. With the audience of AiC, I see it as pandering... I actually have a strong loathing for anime (with only a few exceptions for shows that I have nostalgia attached to), and in particular this "character" that is being depicted. However, I chose this one in the cute category because I somewhat feel like I have to give other people a chance to win. I would've voted for your entries in all sections, but my guilt made me feel it would seem like I was being biased. I am not really sure why I feel this way... Could be that AiC has conditioned me into giving off the "everyone's a winner!" vibe. The art was done fairly well with the 3rd entry at any rate. As for the profile contest, it was a close race between your profile and Chobi's. Chobi's art is just so quirky, I love it...! But I felt your profile had a little more time put into it. Chobi seems to have an easy time churning out his work, and I like when people spend a lot of care doing something harder than their usual work.

Anime is to cartoons as McDonald's is to food.

Totally not offended, layton. I spent a whopping five minutes making my profile. So yes it was lazy. 'Why be so lazy, silly' you may ask? 1: because I don't give a crap if I win (or lose). 2: I kept putting it off and had to meet the deadline pronto. 3: can't think of another reason.
As always mucho respect for calling it like it is.

I didn't understand the Costume contest too well, and I probably shouldn't have entered. I thought it was about using in-game clothes and things to dress your guy or girl.
I was thinking about entering it in the Cutest cat, but I didn't think there would be many Funniest cat entries.

It's all good, Chob. Regrets are lame. I advise against them.

I actually have a strong loathing for anime (with only a few exceptions for shows that I have nostalgia attached to), and in particular this "character" that is being depicted. This is probably due to the fact that you are a real artist. Anime is almost always cookie-cutter characters with no personality in the way they are animated... which flies directly into the face of the unique flair that each individual artist possesses. 1: because I don't give a crap if I win (or lose). I am really not super in-it-to-win-it either. In fact, many of the things I submit to AiC are kind of me testing things out. This month it has been me trying to break into short animations... as evident by this and the goblin machine. Also, you guys should really make a goblin machine. I didn't understand the Costume contest too well, and I probably shouldn't have entered. Ah, ok. That explains things. With a firmer grasp on the concept I think you could have made an entry comparable to mine in all 3 categories. I'm kind of sad to have missed out on that, actually.

I'm coo! I'm coo! She said I'm COO! Also, this SOTW was so bad it doesn't even deserve a scholarly review.

There should be badges for not participating in things.

Well the goblin machine was fun because it wasn't expected. I really do like the merit for it. "listened to Professor Layton and made a goblin machine despite no promises of badges." Kinda sucks cause I DO like to give badges to people who tried to earn them rather than win it by default or with no effort at all. The only people who put any effort are you guys and you don't give a fuck about badges.
Makes me so very sad. btw I love the arcade at BPs place. Super groovy. Wish I could add something like that here. Oh well, I'll be over there then.

Yeah... that SOTW was not so good. Byron's was the only good one... I threw mine together as fast as I was able to draw and animate that stuff. However, the others made mine look like the Sistine Chapel.
Also, BP's Domain is the pinnacle of all internet.

Only the Sistine Chapel? Don't be so hard on yourself. They made you look way better than that.

Byron and Layton. I envy your art, you guys make your stuff awesome so its no doubt that either of you should win 9 times out of 10 on any art contest. The other 2 signatures are something that I could have done in 1 minute when I was 4 years old. Everytime I look at A and B I think "I could draw a better signature then both of those combined", which is what I'm going to do for the monochromatic one. Anime is to cartoons as McDonald's is to food. In all honesty, I can agree with that, Anime is no where near a cartoon. I love it and all but I believe other art forms are much nicer, I personally love landscaping (lets you actually take a good hard look at the world around you instead of passing it by with your face in a phone).
